High-Speed Rail Between Belgrade, Budapest, and Vienna Set to Launch Soon

The high-speed railway connecting Belgrade, Budapest, and Vienna is nearing its launch, with operations anticipated within the next one to two months. Srbijavoz has provided a projected timetable for the 2026/2027 period, outlining expected departure and arrival times for trains on this new route.

The planned schedule reveals eight daily departures to Budapest, two of which will extend their journey to Vienna. The route will be served by two pairs of Hungarian MAV trains: EC Avala and EC Ivo Andrić. The EC Avala is set to depart Vienna for Belgrade at 8:00 AM, arriving in Belgrade at 3:13 PM. In the opposite direction, train 144 (Avala) will leave Belgrade at 8:44 AM, reaching Budapest by 12:14 PM and Vienna by 4:00 PM. This journey between Belgrade and Vienna is expected to take just over seven hours.

For the Belgrade-Budapest segment, the "Soko" train (No. 150) will operate without intermediate stops, departing Belgrade at 5:06 AM and arriving in Subotica at 6:21 AM, before reaching Budapest at 8:14 AM. Another "Soko" service (No. 160) will depart Belgrade at 7:32 PM, arriving in Subotica at 8:47 PM and Budapest at 10:49 PM. The "Soko" train (No. 151) will run from Budapest to Belgrade, departing at 5:09 AM, arriving in Subotica at 7:03 AM, and reaching Belgrade by 8:25 AM. The fastest journey from Belgrade to Budapest will take approximately three hours and 15 minutes.

This new high-speed line promises to significantly reduce travel times. The Belgrade-Budapest journey will be nearly halved compared to current bus services, which take around six hours. The "Soko" train (No. 161) will depart Budapest at 7:45 PM, arriving in Subotica at 9:29 PM and Belgrade by 10:51 PM, offering a swift evening connection.
