Hisbah halts planned colour festival in Yobe

Authorities in Yobe State, Nigeria, have intervened to stop a planned "Colour Festival" in the capital city of Damaturu, asserting that such events contravene Islamic teachings. The Yobe State Hisbah Board, an Islamic law enforcement agency, announced on Monday that its Damaturu Command successfully halted the festival on Saturday.

The board's Media and Publicity Officer, Y. M. Abba, issued a statement emphasizing the Hisbah's dedication to maintaining moral discipline and preserving religious values within the society. The operation was framed as a necessary measure to prevent activities deemed incompatible with the tenets of Islam. The statement warned that the Hisbah Board would not tolerate events that violate Islamic principles and would pursue legal action against any organizers or supporters of such activities.
