Hit-and-run Enugu driver kills PhD-holding police inspector

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the death of Police Inspector Dr. Ikechukwu Obodo in a fatal hit-and-run motor-pedestrian accident. Dr. Obodo, who held a Doctor of Philosophy degree and was attached to the Operations Department at the State Police Command Headquarters, hailed from the Nkpologu community.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command's Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. This clarification was deemed necessary due to misleading social media reports suggesting a police convoy was responsible for the accident. Ndukwe emphasized that there is currently no evidence to support claims that a police convoy was involved in the fatal collision.

While the exact time and location of the accident were not disclosed, the police assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. The command pledged to release further details as the inquiry progresses. Mourning the loss of the officer, Ndukwe described the incident as deeply disheartening and vowed a meticulous investigation into the circumstances of Dr. Obodo's death. A manhunt for the driver involved in the hit-and-run has been initiated, and the deceased officer's remains have been deposited in a mortuary.
