Ho Chi Minh City intercepts truck carrying 620 ducks without permits

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have seized a truck carrying 620 ducks that lacked essential quarantine certificates and origin documentation. The seizure occurred during a coordinated inspection aimed at controlling the movement of animals and animal products entering the city from other provinces.

The joint inspection team, comprising officials from the Department of Livestock Production and Veterinary Medicine and the Rach Chiec Traffic Police, established a checkpoint on Hanoi Highway. The operation focused on vehicles traveling from Dong Nai province into the city.

During the inspection, which began around 7 p.m. on May 28, several trucks carrying poultry and pigs were checked without immediate violations found. However, around 10 p.m., a truck driven by T.V.Q., a 47-year-old resident of Ho Chi Minh City, was stopped.

Mr. Q. stated he was transporting the ducks from Dong Nai to the former Hoc Mon district in Ho Chi Minh City for sale. Upon verification, the truck was found to contain approximately 2.2 tons of ducks. Crucially, the shipment lacked provincial animal quarantine certificates and any proof of origin.

The driver was issued an administrative violation notice for failing to possess animal quarantine documents. Authorities also collected samples from the ducks for avian influenza testing and conducted a full quarantine inspection of the entire flock. This action is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of animal diseases within the city.
