Hoffenheim loan Chaves to Botafogo with possible mandatory purchase

Hoffenheim have sent central defender Arthur Chaves to Brazil, loaning him to Botafogo for the current season. The agreement includes a purchase obligation that applies if certain conditions are met.

Chaves joined Hoffenheim in the summer of 2024 from Portuguese club Académico de Viseu. He quickly became a regular starter in his first season with the German Bundesliga side, but spent most of the following campaign as a substitute. In January, the 25-year-old moved to Augsburg on loan.

Arthur has gained valuable experience in the Bundesliga and at international level over the past two years. We spoke very openly with him about his sporting situation and the various options for his future.

His contract with Hoffenheim runs until the summer of 2029. Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker said Chaves had gained valuable Bundesliga and international experience during his two years at the club.

Schicker said the Brazilian loan would give Chaves the chance to play regularly at a high level and take responsibility in a familiar environment.
