Hoffmann takes interim lead of Union parliamentary group after Spahn's resignation

Alexander Hoffmann, the CSU's parliamentary group leader, has assumed interim leadership of the Union's parliamentary group in the Bundestag. This follows the resignation of Jens Spahn (CDU) amid controversy over his family's use of surrogacy in the United States, a practice prohibited in Germany.

Hoffmann stated that he will lead the parliamentary group until a new chair is elected. He indicated that the CDU and CSU party leaders will take their time to agree on a successor, emphasizing that the group remains capable of functioning and making decisions.
