Hollywood Stars Call for Release of Palestinian Politician Marwan Barghouti

More than 20 international cinema artists, including actors from Marvel films, have supported the "Freedom for Marwan" campaign, calling for the release of Palestinian politician Marwan Barghouti. Barghouti has been imprisoned in Israel for over 20 years.

Notable signatories include Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton, alongside Daniel Brühl, Rebecca Hall, Zawe Ashton, Tatiana Maslany, May Calamawy, Emma Corrin, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Elliot Page, Brian Cox, Riz Ahmed, Hugo Weaving, Dan Stevens, Rob Delaney, and Jason Flemyng. This initiative is part of a broader campaign coordinated by Barghouti's family with UK-based organizations.

A joint statement released by over 200 cultural figures expressed serious concern over alleged mistreatment and denial of legal rights for Barghouti in prison. They urged the United Nations and world governments to actively intervene for his release.

Marwan Barghouti, a senior figure in Fatah, was detained by Israeli forces in 2002 during the Second Intifada. In 2004, an Israeli court sentenced him to five life terms plus 40 years. Barghouti has not accepted the charges and refused to recognize the legitimacy of the court that tried him.
