Honduran government invests to restore 46 idle operating rooms

Honduras is launching a major investment to revive surgical services in its public hospitals, where at least 46 operating rooms are currently out of commission. Juan Carlos García, the minister of the presidency, detailed the plan to rehabilitate these essential facilities, which have been hampered by infrastructure and operational issues.

The intervention will prioritize hospitals in the northern region, including the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula, which has identified significant needs for repair. "A strong investment is coming to recover each of the operating rooms, not only in public hospitals but also where we have some issue with the reduction of the surgical backlog," García stated. Restoring these spaces is expected to increase the number of procedures hospitals can perform and reduce the waiting list for patients needing surgery.

Beyond healthcare, Minister García also addressed ongoing concerns about land invasions affecting the palm oil sector. He indicated that the government is collaborating with the National Agrarian Institute and the Property Institute to find solutions. The administration is analyzing private properties and other real estate to establish a "balance" in land distribution and usage across various regions.

Regarding the international legal proceedings, García confirmed that Honduras is preparing its strategy for a case before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CIDH). A dedicated team is managing the country's approach to this matter.
