Honduran liberal bloc lacks consensus on energy reforms, says lawmaker

Honduran lawmaker Jhosy Toscano announced that the liberal party bloc lacks consensus and willingness to approve the proposed reforms for the electrical subsector. Toscano indicated that discussions on the bill have stalled as liberals seek to refine the initiative, which he acknowledged contains important elements but also requires deletions or improvements.

"There is no unity in the bloc to approve the project presented by the National Party, but there is unity in improving it and building something good so that the country has something timely on the ENEE issue," Toscano stated. He suggested that a draft of the liberal party's counterproposal might be presented this week, with discussions to follow next week.

The liberal bloc's primary stance is to oppose the privatization of the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE) and any increases in electricity rates. Toscano defended the viability of the liberal counterproposal for the National Party, asserting that their objective is to ensure the ENEE operates successfully.
