Honduran parents prefer vaccinating pets over children, officials warn

Honduran health officials are sounding the alarm over a disturbing trend: parents are prioritizing vaccinating their pets over their children. Dr. Pamela Aviléz, head of the Metropolitan Health Region, criticized the low vaccination rates for children, noting that many parents are more focused on their pets' shots.

We are concerned because the parents, the guardians of the children, are not bringing their children for vaccinations, and we are seeing that people are more focused on vaccinating their pets.

"We have to vaccinate our pets, but we cannot deny that human life is important," she added. Aviléz appealed to parents to visit health facilities to get their children vaccinated, stressing that many serious and potentially fatal diseases are preventable through immunization.
