Hong Kong police arrest 16 over bar fight murder

Hong Kong police have arrested 16 individuals in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 32-year-old businessman during a brawl at a Tsim Sha Tsui bar on July 26. The victim, Issac Yeung, was attending a friend's birthday party when an argument escalated into a violent assault.

Yeung was allegedly attacked by several men, leaving him unconscious with severe head trauma, including skull fractures and internal bleeding. He underwent emergency brain surgery but remained in critical condition for six days before being pronounced dead on July 31. The case was subsequently reclassified as murder.

Initially, police arrested nine men and three women, aged between 24 and 52, in connection with the incident. Eight of them were charged with murder or assisting offenders. In a recent development, four more men were arrested and each charged with one count of murder. These four, identified as Lai Wing-lam, 31; Lee Man-tai, 33; Yung Wai-kin, 31; and Thai national Jacky Masanthiah, 26, appeared in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday.

They were remanded in custody after not applying for bail, with their defense lawyers requesting surveillance footage of the incident. Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 29. An investigation by the Regional Anti-triad Unit of Kowloon West is ongoing. The maximum penalty for murder in Hong Kong is life imprisonment.
