  • A 33-year-old woman died after being mauled by a dog at an animal shelter in Ta Kwu Ling, Hong Kong.
  • CCTV footage showed the attack occurred while she was feeding the one-year-old mongrel.
  • The incident is the latest in a string of dog attacks in the city this week.

A 33-year-old woman was found dead at a licensed animal shelter in Ta Kwu Ling, Hong Kong, on Thursday, August 21, after being attacked by a dog. The incident adds to a series of canine-related attacks reported in the city this week.

According to Assistant District Commander Matthew Chan, the deceased suffered various degrees of lacerations on her head, jaw, neck, and arms. Police were alerted around 4 p.m. when a call reported a woman lying unconscious on the shelter's lawn. CCTV footage revealed that the attack happened around 2 p.m. as the woman was feeding a one-meter-long mongrel dog and attempting to guide it into a cage. The dog refused and attacked her for about a minute.

The dog, a one-year-old male, was brought to the shelter by volunteers on August 11 and was awaiting adoption. The woman was the licensed person in charge of the premises and was working alone at the time of the attack. Six other dogs were present at the shelter but were securely caged. An autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death, and the dog will be examined by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

This mauling follows other recent incidents, including a large dog killing two smaller dogs in Yuen Long earlier in the week, leading to the owner's arrest. A 53-year-old man was also bitten by a leashed dog in Shek O, and a 44-year-old woman was injured by an unleashed dog at Jardine's Lookout.

The deceased had various degrees of lacerations on the head, jaw, neck, and arms, and bite marks caused by an animal.
