'Hope' Dominates Box Office, Surpasses 600,000 Viewers in Two Days

The South Korean film 'Hope' has achieved a remarkable box office success, drawing over 600,000 viewers in just two days since its release. On July 16th, the film attracted 274,449 spectators, bringing its cumulative audience to 625,716 and securing the top spot at the box office.

Directed by Na Hong-jin, known for his acclaimed works like 'The Chaser,' 'The Yellow Sea,' and 'The Wailing,' 'Hope' marks his return to filmmaking after a decade. The SF action thriller, which was selected for the competition at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a port director in the demilitarized zone who encounters an unbelievable reality after hearing reports of a tiger's appearance from local youths.

'Hope' garnered significant attention even before its release, topping pre-sale reservation charts for 11 days and surpassing 600,000 reservations. On its opening day, July 15th, it recorded approximately 330,000 viewers, setting the highest opening score for a film this year and marking the best opening for any of Na Hong-jin's films.

The film is maintaining its strong performance, with a considerable gap between it and the second-place movie, 'Minions & Monsters,' which attracted 30,648 viewers on the same day, bringing its total to 66,210. 'Moana,' a live-action adaptation of the Disney animation, ranked third with 19,026 viewers, reaching a cumulative audience of 598,562. The continued box office dominance of 'Hope' is expected to draw further attention throughout its opening weekend.
