Hospital Authority suspends intern and resident doctors over alleged misconduct

Hong Kong's Hospital Authority (HA) has suspended a trainee doctor and a resident physician following allegations of professional misconduct that gained traction on social media. The authority deemed the matter extremely serious, citing its potential to damage the professional image of healthcare staff.

The HA reported a suspected case to the police involving someone logging into the Clinical Management System at Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) using another person's account. This allegedly allowed unauthorized access to patient records at Tuen Mun Hospital. To safeguard patient and system security, the HA immediately suspended the clinical duties and system access rights of the intern doctor involved and a resident doctor at Tuen Mun Hospital.

Furthermore, the HA has notified the relevant university's medical school to assess the intern doctor's fitness for practice. This action follows previous disciplinary measures taken against the intern doctor for an inappropriate act during an internship at Ruttonjee Hospital and against another resident doctor at CMC for misconduct.

The HA has immediately suspended the clinical duties of the intern doctor concerned and a resident doctor at Tuen Mun Hospital, and has also suspended their access right[s] to the system in order to protect patient and system security.

Reports suggest the intern doctor is a social media influencer known as Angel the Medic. Her YouTube channel has since been cleared of videos, and her Instagram account has gone offline. The alleged misconduct included using medical equipment without authorization to X-ray her own knee and posting the image online. She was also suspected of asking her boyfriend, a resident doctor at Tuen Mun Hospital, to assist her with a medical procedure at Ruttonjee Hospital.

The HA has notified the medical school of the relevant university to follow up on the intern doctor’s assessment of being fit for practice.
