House collapse during monsoon kills 11 in Pakistan’s Lahore

Eleven people, all belonging to the same family, died when their house collapsed during heavy monsoon rains in Lahore, Pakistan, on July 30. Six others sustained injuries in the tragic incident.

Rescue services were seen sifting through the debris in the densely populated neighborhood. Residents nearby offered comfort to one another as the recovery efforts continued. Ali Ahmed, a neighbor, described hearing a loud bang, "like an explosion," the previous evening, followed by the building's collapse.

This disaster is part of a larger trend of fatalities linked to the monsoon season in Pakistan. Official figures indicate that at least 121 people have died from flood-related incidents, including drownings and house collapses, since June 26.

While monsoon rains are vital for agriculture in South Asia, climate change is exacerbating their impact, leading to more erratic and deadly weather patterns across the region. Heavy rainfall in recent days has also caused significant flooding in villages near Lahore, forcing residents to evacuate their homes by boat.
