House in Moorslede temporarily uninhabitable after fire

A severe fire has rendered a house in Moorslede, Belgium, temporarily uninhabitable after breaking out in the garage and rapidly spreading to the roof.

The four residents of the home on Oude Molenweg discovered the fire shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday. They attempted to extinguish the flames themselves with a fire blanket but were unsuccessful as the fire spread through the insulation to the rest of the house, with flames at one point emerging from the roof.

Firefighters responded quickly but faced significant challenges in controlling the smoldering fire. To combat the flames within the roof insulation, they had to create a large opening in the roof. The operation to extinguish the fire and manage the heavy smoke continued deep into the night.

While the residents were unharmed, the damage to the property is extensive. The family is currently staying with relatives, and the municipality has offered to find temporary housing if needed.
