House meeting to take up questions, bills and reports today

The House of Representatives in Nepal is set to convene today, with a packed agenda focusing on ministerial accountability and legislative progress. The session, scheduled to begin at 1:10 pm at Singha Durbar, will feature oral questions directed at ministers from four key ministries: Foreign Affairs, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Agriculture, Forests and Environment.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and his counterparts from the other ministries will be tasked with responding to queries from lawmakers concerning their respective portfolios. This provides a crucial platform for parliamentary oversight and public discourse on critical national issues.

In addition to the question-and-answer session, the meeting will also witness the presentation of important reports and legislative proposals. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam will present the seventh annual report of the Tharu Commission on behalf of Prime Minister Balen Shah. Furthermore, Minister Gautam is expected to table proposals seeking consideration for the Passport (First Amendment) Bill and the Mediation-related (Second Amendment) Bill.

The agenda also includes the presentation of the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This indicates a focus on international cooperation and environmental governance alongside domestic legislative matters.
