Housekeeper Sentenced for Stealing Millions in Luxury Goods After 10 Years of Service

A housekeeper with a decade of service has been sentenced to a suspended prison term for stealing luxury goods valued at tens of millions of won from her employer. The 60-year-old woman, identified as A, received a sentence of eight months in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.

A was accused of stealing items, including a 8 million won Chanel bag and a 4 million won Balenciaga dress, from a home in Seoul's Seongdong district where she had worked for approximately 10 years. Authorities allege she committed similar thefts five times by January of this year, accumulating stolen goods worth 78.1 million won.

Further investigation revealed that A also stole approximately 11.68 million won worth of property from another household across 39 instances between November 2020 and January of this year. The court acknowledged the gravity of her repeated offenses and the significant value of the stolen items, noting the victim's plea for severe punishment.

However, the court considered mitigating factors, including A's admission of guilt, the full return of all stolen items, and her status as a first-time offender with no prior criminal record. These factors contributed to the decision to grant a suspended sentence.
