Houston Astros part ways with GM Dana Brown despite AL West lead

The Houston Astros have decided to part ways with General Manager Dana Brown, a move that comes despite the team currently sharing the lead in the American League West division. The decision was announced on July 25th, with the club stating it was a mutual agreement.

This separation follows a recent slump in performance for the Astros. Over their last nine home games, the team managed only three wins against six losses. During this stretch, Houston scored 37 runs while conceding 54, indicating struggles on both offense and defense. A particularly disheartening loss occurred on July 24th, when the Astros blew a 6-0 lead against the last-place Oakland Athletics, ultimately losing 7-6.

Brown, who was appointed GM in January 2023, was in the final year of his contract. He will not see out the season with the team. The remaining general manager duties will be handled by assistant GMs Charles Cook, Koby Allard, and Conor Hard, along with advisor Jeff Bagwell. Owner Jim Crane will directly oversee the club's overall operations.

Despite the mid-season departure, owner Jim Crane acknowledged Brown's contributions.
