Houthi attack on Yemen port kills 8; rebels claim Saudi oil facility strike

The Houthi movement has launched a deadly assault on the Yemeni port city of Mokha, killing eight people, a military official from the internationally recognized Yemeni government reported. The Iran-aligned rebel group also claimed responsibility for an attack on an oil facility in Saudi Arabia. This latest escalation comes after a fragile cease-fire, which had held for years between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government, reportedly broke down last month. The Houthis subsequently intensified attacks on government-controlled areas. The Yemeni official stated that the rebels fired five missiles at commercial ships docked at the port, causing two vessels to catch fire. Mokha itself had been targeted earlier in the week. Among the eight fatalities were two security personnel. In a separate claim, Houthi media cited sources indicating that the group used drones to attack a Saudi Aramco oil facility in Najran, in southwestern Saudi Arabia, stating the operation achieved its objectives. The Houthis had previously claimed an attack on another Saudi Aramco facility in Jizan the day before.
