Crash games once belonged largely to cryptocurrency forums. Now they occupy their own section of online casino menus, with the industry’s biggest software companies producing new titles and reshaping older ones for the format.

The format emerged in 2014, when Canadian developer Eric Springer created a Bitcoin game called MoneyPot. After changing hands, it became better known as Bustabit and remained a specialist product outside the licensed mainstream for years.

That changed gradually. Pragmatic Play released Spaceman in March 2022, calling it the company’s first crash-style game. By late 2025, Evolution was announcing its third title in the genre without explaining the basic mechanics, describing crash games as “well-established online.”

A round begins with a multiplier at 1.00. Players can cash out while the figure rises, receiving the multiplier shown at that moment. The round then ends without warning, and any stake left in the game disappears. In licensed markets, an approved laboratory certifies the random-number generator that determines the stopping point before the round starts.

The attraction lies in the decision to leave. Unlike a slot, which resolves after a spin, a crash game waits for the player to choose the moment of cashing out. Other players’ decisions appear in the same window, turning each round into a shared display of timing and risk.

The format’s commercial momentum is also visible in the treatment of established brands. Games Global reissued its long-running Thunderstruck slot as Thunderstruck FlyX, which now appears alongside other crash games at Betway in Britain. The industry calls crash games its fastest-growing casino category, although that claim does not rest on an audited league table.
