How the Media Manufactured Consent for Genocide

Assal Rad built a reputation online as a “headline fixer,” correcting what she described as journalistic failures at major news organizations. Now, in her new book, “Don’t Say Palestine: How the Media Manufactured Consent for Genocide,” she traces how mainstream media helped normalize the dehumanization of Palestinians.

In an interview with The Listening Post presenter Richard Gizbert, Rad argues that the media also helped whitewash Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza. Her book focuses on the language and framing that, she says, made the treatment of Palestinians appear normal or acceptable.

The program also turns to the occupied West Bank, where Israel has intensified efforts to make life unbearable, according to the report. Settlers, protected by the Israeli army, have been besieging, attacking and killing Palestinians.
