Hrubý: Children no longer play sports, they would rather become influencers. Houška can go far

Five new Americans and no Czechs: basketball club Sluneta has found all of its reinforcements for the next league season abroad. General manager Tomáš Hrubý believes that pattern is unlikely to change soon.

“Czech players are becoming harder and harder to find on the market,” Hrubý said. Older players such as the Vyoral, Šiřina, Pomikálek and Kříž families are aging or leaving, while new players are not coming through.

“Children have different interests today. If you are not an influencer, you are not in. Sport is their third priority,” said Hrubý, who manages the club in Ústí nad Labem. He also singled out Houška as a player capable of making a major impact.
