Hsinchu City invests more than NT$5.9 billion in construction and renovation at 18 schools

As students return for the new school year, Hsinchu City says it has committed more than NT$5.9 billion to school construction and renovation across the city.

The program covers 18 schools and 24 buildings. More than NT$3.5 billion is going toward new facilities, while over NT$2.4 billion is earmarked for older school buildings. Some projects have already opened, while others remain under construction, in bidding, or in the design stage.

The city says facilities completed or nearing completion include activity centers at Zhuliang Elementary School and Qingcaohu Elementary School, buildings for the Waldorf Experimental School, a kindergarten attached to Hsinchu Elementary School, the junior high division of Jianggong High School, and a new building at Guangwu Junior High School.

Projects still moving forward include rebuilding work at Peiying Junior High School, Nanliao Elementary School, Neihu Elementary School, and Xiangshan High School, as well as a new activity center at Zaixi Elementary School. The city also plans to complete facilities at Zhuliang Elementary School, Jianggong High School, Guangwu Junior High School, Guanghua Junior High School, and Peiying Junior High School between September and December of the 2026 academic year.

Mayor Ann Kao said further improvements at Zhuliang Elementary School will include the entrance plaza, an internal pedestrian bridge, and landscaping. Qingcaohu Elementary School received about NT$65 million for traffic separation and campus upgrades. Its multipurpose activity center won a 2024 National Excellence in Construction Award for planning and design. The city also highlighted work addressing seismic safety, chloride damage, and chronic flooding at Gangnan Elementary School.
