Hsinchu City's Night Roadwork Sparks Complaints, Officials Citing Traffic Concerns

Residents in Hsinchu City are complaining about nighttime road construction projects, particularly on Guangfu Road, a major thoroughfare lined with homes. They argue that the noise from the repaving work is disturbing sleep and disrupting their lives.

The city's Public Works Department explained that the night work is part of the "Road Leveling Project - East District Phase 1" and involves underground utility cover adjustments. They emphasized that this is a crucial preliminary step before repaving to ensure road smoothness and safety.

Officials stated that Guangfu Road experiences heavy traffic during the day. Conducting construction at night, during off-peak hours, is intended to significantly reduce the impact on traffic flow. They acknowledged the inconvenience caused to nearby residents and apologized, while also requesting public understanding and cooperation.

The city has instructed the construction team to implement traffic control measures and noise mitigation efforts to shorten construction times and lessen the disturbance. The work must comply with the "Hsinchu City Regulations for Road Excavation and Pipeline Installation Management," which requires utility companies to adjust manhole covers before repaving to meet road sealing standards.
