Speaking at an overseas Chinese community event in San Francisco, Hsu's comments have ignited a firestorm of controversy.

Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Ting-yu vehemently denounced Hsu's actions, stating that the Kuomintang under her leadership has become a mere extension of the Chinese Communist Party's united front efforts. He accused the party of actively promoting Beijing's agenda abroad.
