Huang Kuo-chang Supports Ko Chih-en; Lai Jui-lung Calls Them 'Culprits' of Tax Law 'Malice' Against Kaohsiung

A political spat has erupted in Kaohsiung over proposed revisions to the fiscal revenue allocation law, with accusations flying between candidates for the mayoral race. The controversy ignited when Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang publicly endorsed Kuomintang candidate Ko Chih-en, asserting that the tax reform would significantly boost Kaohsiung's allocated funds.

Huang and Ko are the culprits behind the malicious amendment of the fiscal revenue allocation law, and they still dare to deceive Kaohsiung.

This statement drew sharp criticism from Democratic Progressive Party candidate Lai Jui-lung, who vehemently denounced both Huang and Ko. Lai accused them of being the primary architects behind a "malicious amendment" to the fiscal revenue allocation law, which he claims has resulted in a loss of NT$20 billion for Kaohsiung. He questioned their audacity in making such claims within Kaohsiung, asserting that the city's residents would not be deceived.

Lai emphasized that Kaohsiung has long suffered from a "heavy north, light south" policy, and recent progress under President Tsai Ing-wen and Mayor Chen Chi-mai has begun to shift this imbalance. He argued that reverting to the old ways would hinder Kaohsiung's development and urged voters to support his candidacy to maintain the city's upward trajectory. Lai insisted that the alleged amendment to the fiscal revenue allocation law is a clear fact that has damaged Kaohsiung's finances and infrastructure projects, including the metro system.

Lai called on Huang Kuo-chang to apologize to Kaohsiung residents and urged Ko Chih-en to support the version of the fiscal revenue allocation law proposed by the Executive Yuan, which he believes would restore justice to the city. He warned Kaohsiung citizens against being misled by what he termed Huang's "specious arguments," asserting that the city would not be easily fooled.
