Hue man fined for spreading false school-fee claim after drinking

A man in Hue has been fined 5 million Vietnamese dong after posting a false allegation that a local secondary school charged families 5 million dong to enrol children outside its designated area.

Police identified the account behind the Facebook post, “Lâm Bảo Bảo,” as H.T.X., a 41-year-old resident of Phu Xuan Ward. The post accused To Huu Secondary School of collecting the fee from students seeking out-of-district admission. It quickly spread online and drew public attention, while affecting the school’s reputation.

Hue police investigated the claim with local authorities and parents submitting applications for their children. They concluded that the allegation had no basis. During questioning, H.T.X. admitted making the post and said it resulted from drinking, personal frustration and a habit of following negative material on social media.

He deleted the post and signed a pledge not to repeat the offence. The city’s internal political security division issued the 5 million dong administrative fine for providing and sharing false information that distorted facts and harmed the reputation of an organisation.
