Hull City and Aston Villa share the points in goalless draw

Neither Hull City nor Aston Villa could find the goal that had eluded both teams through the first two rounds of the Premier League, as their meeting ended 0-0.

Aston Villa began with the greater attacking intent. Nicolas Jackson and George Hemmings both threatened during the opening 15 minutes, but Konstantinos Tzolakis stopped Hemmings from close range and Jackson's header went narrowly wide. Hull City spent much of that period defending with a back five and gave the visitors little space.

Villa held 70 percent possession in the first half, but managed only one shot on target. Hull City produced three, including efforts from Muhammed Belloumi and Regan Slater that Zion Suzuki saved. The teams reached halftime scoreless after late counterattacks briefly lifted the atmosphere in the stands.

Villa continued to create opportunities after the break. John McGinn shot over after going through one-on-one, and Emiliano Buendia also sent a clear chance over the bar. Belloumi later struck the crossbar with a powerful effort. Unai Emery introduced Matteo Ruggeri, Alejandro Garnacho and Alysson in the 75th minute, but Hull City came closer to breaking the deadlock near the end. Suzuki denied Cho in the 89th minute, while Oli McBurnie headed a late cross wide.

The result kept Hull City among the two teams, alongside Arsenal, yet to concede in the league. Hull had beaten Manchester United 2-0 and Coventry City 1-0 in its first two matches. Aston Villa, which also failed to score in its first three games last season, became only the second team in league history after Ipswich Town in 1969-70 and 1970-71 to begin two seasons with three consecutive scoreless matches.
