Hull City sign Senegal defender Mendy from Rayo Vallecano

Hull City has secured the signing of Senegalese defender Mamadou Mendy from Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, bolstering their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League. The newly promoted club announced the transfer on Wednesday, with Mendy agreeing to a five-year deal that includes an option for an additional year.

While financial details were not officially disclosed, British media reports suggest the transfer fee is approximately 25 million euros, with potential add-ons. This figure could potentially break Hull City's previous transfer record, which was set earlier this month with the acquisition of Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis for 20 million pounds.

Mendy spent one season at Rayo Vallecano, making 28 appearances and scoring twice. Prior to his stint with Rayo, he played for Real Betis, where he featured in six senior matches and was part of the team that reached the Conference League final in 2025. The left-footed defender also made his debut for the Senegal national team in March, starting in a friendly victory.
