Hundreds of Thousands Brave Heat at Zurich's Street Parade

Zurich's 33rd Street Parade drew hundreds of thousands of revelers on Saturday, who braved scorching temperatures nearing 32 degrees Celsius (90 Fahrenheit) to celebrate the annual electronic music festival. The event, a major fixture in the global techno scene, saw participants dancing on and around approximately 30 "lovemobiles", elaborately decorated floats, as they moved along a roughly 2-kilometer route beside the lake.

Despite the intense heat, the atmosphere remained vibrant, with music starting at 13:00 on nine fixed stages along the parade route. Nearly 200 DJs were scheduled to perform throughout the day until midnight. To combat the heat, organizers installed two large public showers, which proved immensely popular, while attendees also used water guns, misting devices, and cool drinks to stay refreshed. Shaded areas were scarce and highly sought after.

Security was notably heightened following a July 25th attack at the Christopher Street Day event in Berlin. Zurich police maintained a strong visible presence at access points, with some officers in full tactical gear. Physical barriers, including concrete blocks, were used to prevent unauthorized vehicles from entering the event area. By late afternoon, authorities reported no major incidents.

In response to past issues with broken glass, local supermarkets Coop, Migros, and Lidl near the parade route opted not to sell cold beverages in glass bottles. Official vendors exclusively offered drinks in PET bottles and aluminum cans. The Street Parade, which typically attracts around 800,000 attendees and continues late into the night, operates on a budget of 4.8 million Swiss francs.
