Hung Hom ParknShop ordered to rectify hygiene issues after viral video of rat infestation

A ParknShop supermarket in Hung Hom has been ordered to address significant hygiene issues after a video of a rat infestation went viral on social media. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) conducted a surprise inspection of the Ka Wai Estate store following the online circulation of footage appearing to show rodents scurrying among produce.

The viral post, shared on Threads on July 15, prompted swift action from the FEHD. During their inspection, officers discovered evidence of rodent activity and noted holes in the walls of the premises. Consequently, the department issued statutory orders to the supermarket and nearby establishments, mandating corrections within a specified deadline.

According to HK01, the supermarket management stated that they had disposed of the affected food items. They also reported engaging a pest control company to conduct thorough disinfection and cleaning of the premises. The FEHD has committed to conducting follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with the issued orders.
