Hungarian Clubs Face European Challenges: Győr Dominates, Debrecen Rebuilds

Hungarian football clubs are navigating the early stages of European competitions with mixed fortunes. ETO FC Győr took a significant step towards advancing in the Europa Conference League, achieving a commanding 6-2 away win against Luxembourg's Atert Bissen. This victory, effectively sealing the tie, also marked the first win for new Győr head coach Efraín Juárez.

Goals from Nfansu Njie (twice), Claudiu Bumba, Vitális Milán, Viktor Djukanovic, and Bánáti Kevin secured the comfortable result for Győr. While the attack showed improvement, particularly with the debut goal from new signing Djukanovic, the defense remained a concern, conceding after a misplaced pass from Tóth Rajmund.

Meanwhile, DVSC Debrecen is set to begin their season with a new Estonian head coach, Gert Remmel, and a significantly altered squad. The team has lost two key attacking players: Szűcs Tamás moved to Portugal's Famalicão, and Bárány Donát transferred to the Netherlands' Den Haag. Debrecen aims to compensate for these departures by signing Szendrei Ákos.

Debrecen's opponent, Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia, is already match-fit, having eliminated Malta's Marsaxlokk with a convincing 4-0 aggregate victory in the previous round. Paks faces a tougher challenge in their Europa League qualifier against Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos. Despite acknowledging they are the underdogs, Paks captain Böde Dániel expressed confidence, stating, "We are not the favorites of the match, but we are not going into it with our hands tied." He hopes the tie will remain undecided until the second leg in Athens.
