Hungary: Police car torched in Gödöllő; suspect arrested

A police officer's car was completely destroyed by fire in Gödöllő, Hungary, after a suspect allegedly set it ablaze late Tuesday evening. The perpetrator reportedly poured an accelerant onto the vehicle, which was parked in front of the local police station, before igniting it.

Fortunately, the rapid response of law enforcement officers and firefighters contained the blaze. Their efforts prevented the fire from spreading to other vehicles and nearby buildings, though there was an immediate risk of escalation.

The suspect, described as having a history of multiple convictions, was apprehended. The Budakörnyék District Prosecutor's Office has requested pre-trial detention for the man, citing the risks of flight, concealment, recidivism, and obstruction of justice. A judge is expected to rule on the detention request today.

The incident highlights a brazen act of vandalism targeting a police officer's property. Authorities are emphasizing the seriousness of the crime, particularly given the suspect's prior offenses and the potential danger posed by the fire.
