Hungary reviews utility cost reductions ahead of heating season

Hungary's new government is scrutinizing its predecessor's utility cost reduction policies, particularly concerning heating expenses. Finance Minister Kármán András has indicated that the current system is not a sustainable long-term solution, though he assured that a "shock therapy" for consumers is not planned. Instead, the government favors a more targeted and socially equitable approach that considers varying consumption and income levels. This direction is already evident in measures like defining eligibility for school start support and the planned discontinuation of the interest rate cap on September 30.
