Hungary's Kossuth Radio relaunches with revamped news and programming

Kossuth Radio, a cornerstone of Hungarian public broadcasting, is set to relaunch with a significantly revamped lineup of news and programming. The station promises a fresh approach, featuring newly produced shows available as podcasts, the return of classic radio formats, and even broadcasts on the old Sokol radio.

György Kerényi, who is spearheading the renewal, stated that the station's news and information segments will be entirely transformed. He emphasized a commitment to "true news, authentic stories, and knowledgeable guests," and has brought in experienced journalists to bolster the team. The editorial leadership includes deputy editors-in-chief Zsolt Bogár and Péter Magyari, the latter launching a new program titled "Open Secret" that will delve into the "turbulent affairs" of the past 16, and even 36, years, with investigative reporters Róbert Báthory and Áron Kovács.

Magyari will also debut a new foreign policy analysis program, "World Order," on August 29. The morning news and information program, "Sunrise," along with daily current affairs shows, will be hosted by Benyó Rita, Erika Hatvani Tóth, Tímea Tatár, and Nóra Teszári. The newsroom will be led by Pálma Fazekas, with several journalists returning to or joining the news programs.

The afternoon schedule will feature "Necces," a current affairs program offering a female perspective, hosted by Csilla Orosz and Zsófia Sashegyi. Sunday mornings will introduce two new programs: "My Mother Tongue is Still Hungarian," focusing on Hungarians beyond the borders, led by Vince Rácz of Pátria Radio, and "Seventh Day," a faith-based program hosted by Dóra Laborczi.

Cultural content is also set to expand significantly, with increased airtime for various programs and audio dramas. The cultural section will be led by Anita Bödő. New daily programs include "Doctor Kossuth" on health and "The Earth Remains" on environmental topics. The announcement concludes with the message that the renewed Kossuth Radio, starting August 24, "belongs to everyone again."
