Hungary’s music world celebrates hosting an internationally acclaimed event as Marton Éva competition prizes presented

Hungary’s music community has hailed the opportunity to host an internationally recognized event as the special prizes of the 7th Marton Éva International Singing Competition were presented.

The competition, organized by the Liszt Academy with support from the Hungarian state, began last Monday with 80 participants and total prize money of €75,000. Its international jury is chaired by the Kossuth Prize-winning Hungarian opera singer Éva Marton.

Marton thanked the jury, Hungarian State Opera Director General Szilveszter Ókovács, András Batta, Gábor Farkas and the event staff. She said the competition could be carried out only through joint work and as a community.

The jury also includes Spanish arts manager Miguel Lerín, Royal Opera House casting director Peter Mario Katona, Italian-based Ukrainian tenor and vocal coach Anatoli Goussev, Italian tenor Vittorio Terranova, Turkish-German mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun, Bolshoi Theatre youth opera program director Dmitry Vdovin, Liszt Academy vocal department head Andrea Meláth and Ókovács.

The Marton Éva International Singing Competition was first held at the Liszt Academy in 2014. It has since become an important international contest for young opera singers at the beginning of their careers. Applicants come from around the world to perform before leading figures in international opera. The competition aims to help young talent gain international exposure and establish relationships with influential opera professionals.
