Hunt for Delhi Police Constable Who Shot Wife Dead; Dowry Claim Under Probe

Investigators are actively pursuing a Delhi Police constable suspected of fatally shooting his wife on her birthday in East Delhi's Vinod Nagar area. Five police teams are conducting raids across Delhi-NCR and Haryana to apprehend the accused, Manish Bhati, who remains at large.

The incident occurred on Monday when the couple, riding a two-wheeler, stopped following an argument. Bhati, a constable with the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) since 2022, allegedly used his service pistol to shoot his 30-year-old wife, Priyanka, in the chest before fleeing.

Adding a layer of complexity to the investigation, Priyanka's family has alleged that she endured dowry harassment since her marriage in 2023. They had previously filed a complaint with the women's cell against Bhati and his family. Police confirmed these allegations are being verified as part of the ongoing murder investigation.

Based on technical surveillance and other leads, police are conducting extensive raids in areas including Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and various parts of Haryana. A senior police officer expressed confidence in apprehending Bhati soon, stating that crucial clues about his whereabouts have been obtained.

CCTV footage recovered by investigators reportedly shows the couple stopping their vehicle near Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where the argument escalated into the fatal shooting. Priyanka, a teacher at a private school, was taken to the hospital by a passerby but was declared dead upon arrival. A murder case has been registered, and authorities are meticulously examining CCTV footage, electronic evidence, and witness statements to reconstruct the events leading to the crime.
