Husband of Italian Minister disappears in lake

Luigi Cavallari, the husband of Italian Minister for Family, Birth Rate, and Equal Opportunities Eugenia Roccella, is officially missing after disappearing in Lake Vico. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 27, while the couple was on a boat outing on the lake, located about 80 kilometers north of Rome. According to Italian press reports, Cavallari dove into the water for a refreshing swim but failed to resurface. His wife raised the alarm when she realized he was in distress. Initial reports suggest Cavallari may have experienced a sudden illness, possibly a thermal shock due to the cold water, which prevented him from returning to the boat. The couple was alone on the small vessel, which had departed from a nearby nautical center. Rescue efforts were immediately launched, involving police, firefighters, divers, and a helicopter from Rome. A submersible robot with night vision capabilities was also deployed. The search operations have been concentrated in the area where Cavallari was last seen. Italian media reports indicate that hopes of finding him alive are now considered "null," as the search continues into Sunday morning. Lake Vico is known to be a popular spot, especially on weekends, and has seen drowning incidents in the past.
