Hyosung Heavy Industries Opens AI Data Center in Seoul, Targeting New Growth

Hyosung Heavy Industries is making a significant push into the artificial intelligence infrastructure market with the opening of its new AI data center in Seoul's Gasan Digital Complex. The facility, named 'STT Seoul 1', is a joint venture with global data center specialist STT GDC and marks Hyosung's formal entry into the data center business.

The newly opened data center is engineered to support demanding AI workloads, capable of supplying up to 30 MW of power. This capacity is sufficient for large-scale cloud services and high-performance AI servers, which are known for their substantial power consumption and heat generation. Hyosung highlighted its ability to secure such a significant power capacity in Seoul, a location where power and land acquisition are typically challenging, as a key competitive advantage.

Hyosung plans to integrate the group's diverse capabilities to create a robust AI data center business model. Hyosung Heavy Industries will contribute its expertise in power equipment, including ultra-high voltage transformers and switchgear, enhancing the data center's operational stability and energy efficiency. Hyosung ITX will focus on optimizing traffic and bolstering security systems by applying cloud, content delivery network, and digital transformation solutions across the data center's operations.
