I’m heartbroken but thankful, ex-minister Adeosun mourns husband

Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has shared her profound grief and gratitude following the death of her husband, Adeniyi Adeosun, who passed away on August 5 at the age of 62. During the funeral service held on Thursday, Adeosun described her husband's passing as both painful and difficult to comprehend, yet she expressed deep thankfulness for the years they shared.

I’m heartbroken, I’ve found it difficult to believe that this actually happened. But at the same time, I’m very thankful.

Adeosun recounted that her husband was not ill prior to his death. He reportedly went to sleep and did not wake up. She found solace in seeing him in the mortuary with a "biggest smile on his face," describing his peaceful passing as the way she herself would wish to depart. This sentiment underscores the couple's shared life and her acceptance of his final moments.

The couple was preparing to celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary this year and had made plans to travel more frequently. Adeosun shared their intention to "spend all the money" on travel, indicating a desire to enjoy the fruits of their sensible financial planning. This highlights the future they envisioned together, now tragically cut short.

On Friday, I went to the mortuary and when I saw him, he had the biggest smile on his face. He wasn’t sick. He simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up… that’s the way I’d like to go.

Adeosun fondly remembered her husband as a "mischievous human being," sharing an anecdote about him once "declaring himself disabled and getting a wheelchair" to bypass a long immigration queue during a trip to the United States. She characterized such incidents as typical of "Niyi," painting a picture of a man whose unique approach to life filled their home with laughter.

This year would have been 33 years of our wedding anniversary. We had a meeting, two of us, and we said now every three months, we’re just going to be travelling, we spend all the money. We’ve been so sensible that it’s time for us to enjoy ourselves.

Adeniyi Adeosun is survived by his wife, children, and siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital. His funeral service was attended by prominent figures, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who offered condolences to the former minister. The loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, as Adeosun stated, "He’s going to be very much missed by everybody that knew him."
