I’m not working for Tinubu, Kwankwaso faults Kano gov’s spokesman

Presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has vehemently dismissed allegations that he is collaborating with President Bola Tinubu for the latter's re-election in 2027. Speaking on Global TV, the former governor of Kano State labeled the claims, attributed to the spokesperson for the Kano State Governor, as the product of 'foolish people's' thinking. Kwankwaso asserted that his political focus is solely on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), not on supporting any other candidate's ambition.

I think only foolish people would believe that. We are not working for anybody. We are only working for NDC.

While acknowledging a long-standing personal relationship with President Tinubu, whom he referred to as a 'senior brother and good friend,' Kwankwaso was clear that friendship does not equate to political alignment. He emphasized that both he and Tinubu are pursuing their respective political paths independently. This distinction is crucial for understanding Kwankwaso's political positioning, as he seeks to maintain his influence and chart his own course within Nigeria's complex political landscape.

Bola Tinubu has been my senior brother and good friend up till now. But that doesn’t mean we shall pull all our political ideologies together with him.

Kwankwaso also offered a critique of the current administration, suggesting that President Tinubu might be out of touch with the country's realities due to the influence of his close advisors. He implied that these advisors may be exacerbating the nation's problems rather than offering sound counsel. This perspective from a prominent opposition figure adds another layer to the political discourse surrounding the administration's effectiveness.

Furthermore, Kwankwaso confirmed active political discussions within the Nigeria Democratic Congress, revealing that the coalition has decided to back Peter Obi as its chosen candidate from the southern region for the upcoming presidential election. He expressed confidence in the coalition's ability to mobilize support, noting that the eight months remaining until January 16, 2027, provide ample time for campaigning and consolidating their position.
