I've never spoken to Everton owner Friedkin, says Moyes

David Moyes says he has never met or spoken to Everton owner Dan Friedkin since returning as the club's manager in January 2025. Friedkin completed his takeover in December 2024 and has not attended a home match since, while day-to-day operations remain with his son-in-law, Rishi Majithia, and chief executive Angus Kinnear.

“My real contact is Angus,” Moyes told reporters before Everton's match against Manchester United. “Angus is the one who I would go to see. Rishi is the next one and then the head of the Friedkin family in America.” He said he did not have direct conversations with the owners but communicated through Majithia.

The club's leadership came under intense scrutiny during a chaotic transfer window. Supporters reacted angrily after Everton accepted a £40 million bid from Nottingham Forest for England Under-19 midfielder Harrison Armstrong, although the club later withdrew from the deal. On deadline day, Everton sold Beto to Fiorentina before securing a replacement striker. Folarin Balogun then pulled out of a move from Monaco at the last minute.

Everton finished the window with only 18 senior players. The squad included one striker, one right-back and one left-back. Moyes had backed the supporters' frustration over the proposed Armstrong sale, saying the club was “managed by an Evertonian” and that “supporters aren't always wrong.”

He acknowledged that the club's internal structure needed work, but said he would not leave the challenge. “Everton's different,” Moyes said when asked whether he had considered quitting. “I wouldn't have come back for anybody but Everton.” He said the club needed the supporters' extra energy because the squad was short, while urging them to direct that support toward the team and players.
