Ibom Air receives third Airbus A220-300 aircraft

Nigerian airline Ibom Air has expanded its fleet with the delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft. This latest addition signifies a continued commitment to modernizing its operations and growing its network, positioning the airline for enhanced efficiency and broader reach within Nigeria and West Africa.

The aircraft, registered as 5N-CDC, was formally received at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents. This delivery marks another milestone for Ibom Air, contributing to its goal of operating one of the youngest and most modern fleets in Nigeria.

Mr. George Uriesi, Managing Director/CEO of Ibom Air, expressed delight at the arrival of the new A220-300, attributing the achievement to the strong support of the airline's shareholder, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno. Uriesi highlighted the significant positive impact the new A220 aircraft will have on the airline's operations, emphasizing improvements in safety, passenger experience, environmental responsibility, and overall efficiency.

With the addition of the third A220-300, Ibom Air's total fleet now stands at 10 aircraft. This includes seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Regional Jets (CRJ900s) and the three Airbus A220-300s. The airline had placed a firm order for 10 A220-300 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2021, with the first factory-new A220 delivered in 2023 and an additional one acquired outright in 2024. Airbus Canada's CEO, Guillaume Chevasson, congratulated Ibom Air, reaffirming Airbus' commitment to supporting the airline's growth and highlighting the A220's suitability for domestic and regional networks due to its operational flexibility and fuel efficiency.
