ICE presents statistical overview of Santa Cruz's economic and social development

The Cruceño Institute of Statistics (ICE) has released "Santa Cruz Estadístico 2026," a comprehensive report designed to provide a clear picture of the department's economic and social progress. This new tool consolidates crucial data across various sectors, including economy, health, education, production, and environmental status.

The publication highlights Santa Cruz's substantial economic contribution, accounting for approximately 30% of Bolivia's national GDP. The department's economy is valued at over 17 billion bolivianos, and it dominates the country's agricultural production, representing nearly 75% of the national total.

Juan Pablo Suárez, director of ICE, emphasized that the bulletin serves as a vital resource, making departmental information accessible in a single, organized document. This accessibility is intended to empower the public and stakeholders in their planning and decision-making processes.

Health and Human Development Secretary Germán Antelo noted the report's importance for the healthcare system, enabling better identification of needs and more efficient planning across the department's 50 municipalities. The report also tracks significant environmental changes, such as a dramatic reduction in land affected by fires, from nearly 8.74 million hectares in 2024 to 347,000 hectares in 2025. Additionally, it indicates a literacy rate of 2.4% based on 2024 census data.

Suárez underscored that the statistical information provided by ICE is indispensable for both public and private management. He stated that effective planning and decision-making are impossible without reliable statistical data, making the report a valuable asset for municipal governments, institutions, researchers, and the general public.
