ICE Security Perimeter Confirmed for 2026 World Cup in Dallas

Federal agents, including those from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will be present to bolster security during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Dallas, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed. While the primary objective is to enhance security and enforce laws, authorities emphasize that the deployment is not intended for mass raids.

Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin stated that ICE personnel will work alongside Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. Their duties will encompass security and law enforcement within areas connected to the tournament, specifically focusing on the vicinity of AT&T Stadium in Arlington and major fan gathering points. The DHS has assigned the World Cup a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) of 1, the highest risk assessment level, signifying the need for significant inter-agency support.

The security perimeter in Dallas is expected to be extensive, with officials comparing the operational scale to managing "78 Super Bowls." Surveillance will be continuous throughout the tournament's 39 days. The DHS's security measures may include deploying explosive detection K9 units, implementing cyber risk assessments, and providing intelligence personnel and structural review teams for the venues.

Dallas is set to host nine matches of the 2026 World Cup. The DHS's involvement underscores the significant security considerations for such a large-scale international event, aiming to ensure order and safety for attendees and participants alike.
