Icelandic handball player Jónsson to join Rhein-Neckar Löwen in 2027

Elvar Örn Jónsson, the 28-year-old Icelandic national handball player, is set to depart from SC Magdeburg in the summer of 2027. He has committed to a four-year contract with fellow league competitor Rhein-Neckar Löwen, beginning in the summer of 2027 and extending through June 30, 2031.

Jónsson arrived at SC Magdeburg in the summer of 2025, having previously played for MT Melsungen. SC Magdeburg's coach, Bennet Wiegert, expressed regret over Jónsson's decision to leave but wished him well, emphasizing the player's quick integration and perfect fulfillment of his role within the team. Wiegert is confident that Jónsson will give his all for the club until his final day.
