Idaan increases well drilling depth in Coclé amid dry season challenges

The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) is deepening its well drilling operations in Coclé province as it struggles to secure adequate water sources to maintain aqueduct operations during the dry season. Regional Idaan authorities explained that technical staff are continuously verifying water treatment plants and identifying new water sources as part of their strategy to combat the arid conditions.

Historically, well drillings in the region typically reached depths of 150 to 160 feet, which often yielded sufficient water flow. However, the situation has become more challenging, forcing Idaan's teams to drill significantly deeper, between 200 and 300 feet, in hopes of finding underground sources with better yields.

Idaan acknowledges that locating consistent underground water sources has become a major hurdle. Even with increased drilling depth, the expected water flow is not always achieved. Despite these difficulties, the institution assures the public that it is employing advanced equipment, technology, and skilled personnel to improve the identification of more stable water sources and bolster the production of potable water for aqueducts reliant on deep wells.
