A family in Australia has expanded dramatically with the birth of identical quadruplets, all girls, who arrived via Cesarean section at 28 weeks of gestation. The parents, Jenitar Sau Na’amoana and Jortham, already have four children aged between one and ten, and had not planned for further additions to their family.

The natural conception of identical quadruplets, a phenomenon described as "extremely rare," came as a complete surprise to the couple. These "monochorionic quadruplets" all originated from a single egg, sharing one placenta. This type of pregnancy carries a "super high risk" because the fetuses can share blood supply through the placental blood vessels, potentially leading to one or more fetuses not receiving adequate nutrients and experiencing poor growth.

Specialist doctors closely monitored the mother throughout her pregnancy. She was admitted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital at 25 weeks for continuous observation. Dr. Alexa Bendall, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at the hospital, commented on the mother's composure, stating, "Jenitar has taken everything calmly from the beginning. She has somehow managed to avoid all complications and risks, both for herself and for the children."

Experts note that the rarity of such a pregnancy makes it a subject of interest in medical circles. Professor Bo Jacobsson, an expert in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Gothenburg, highlighted that the key concern for delivery clinics is the number of placentas, rather than whether the embryos originated from the same egg. He is aware of only one similar case documented in a 2013 article concerning quadruplets sharing a placenta, born in Leipzig, Germany.
