IESS Disburses $63 Million for External Health Services

The Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) has disbursed more than $63 million to 195 private healthcare providers during June 2026. This significant financial injection aims to guarantee the uninterrupted continuity of medical treatments, specialized procedures, and services for its affiliates across the country.

The funds were distributed to medical units located in various provinces, with notable allocations to Azuay, Guayas, and Pichincha. This financial support is crucial for the operational capacity of private medical centers that supplement the IESS's public healthcare network, ensuring that beneficiaries have access to necessary care.

This recent disbursement is part of a larger financial commitment. Since December 2025, the IESS has allocated over $616 million specifically for payments to external health providers throughout Ecuador. This investment covers a wide range of critical specialties, including oncology units and dialysis centers, which are vital for the well-being and quality of life of thousands of patients.

The IESS also maintains a continuous process of audits to optimize payment mechanisms and rigorously validate the services rendered. These internal controls are designed to ensure transparency, efficient use of funds, and timely, quality healthcare access for retirees, affiliates, and their beneficiaries, addressing the nation's ongoing health needs.
